Pandemic Art

When most of us started having to stay home during Covid, I no longer had the luxury of painting with no family around.  I found a project that was easier to work on in short bursts.  It was a simplified portrait of one of my favorite singers, James Hetfield of Metallica, screaming at the top of his lungs.  From there I branched out to other angry thrash or speed metal singers.

I’ve been listening to this kind of music for years now.  It gives me the energy to really push myself when I exercise. A key factor about the bands I like is that there is a lead singer who shouts in a way that the rest of us normally try to avoid.  It's become even more appealing to me during the pandemic.

The series has been allowing me to let out my inner demons during this highly stressful time.  It’s a win-win: I get release and my family and friends are (mostly!) safe from my built-up anger.
